A long look across a land of great contrasts.I'm in the Sacramento mountains of southern New Mexico at 9,400 feet. It's late monsoon season, and by now everything is as green as it will get up here. But if I look northwest at sunrise through a gap in the trees, I can see across the Tularosa Basin to the San Andres mountains...50 miles away...and beyond them, across the Rio Grande valley I can see the southern flanks of either the San Mateo or Magdalena mountains...over 100 miles away. Those mountains, at least the portion I can see, are at lower elevations...approx. 7,000 feet. They look dry and brown. #NewMexico #Mountains #Monsoon #Drought #Photography
