#WritersCoffeeClub 11 Sep: If you could banish one trope for a century, which would you choose?Size means power. Hands down.(And adding to that: the MC or LI is the strongest of 'em all. I have no words how sick I am of that one.)

#WritersCoffeeClub 9/10. What encouragement would you give writers younger than yourself?Keep writing. Write for the fun of it. Write the story that brings you joy. Don't worry about it being "good" or "marketable" - you can worry about that in edits. Just write! If you make a story you love, others will love it, too.

#WritersCoffeeClub 10/9 - What encouragement would you give writers younger than yourself?Write the book you want to read that no-one else has written and enjoy tf out of reading it. If anyone else reads it, and genuinely gets it, that's a friend for life.

#WritersCoffeeClub - What incorrect assumptions might a reader make about you? That I know by heart anything I've written to discuss its deeper meaning further. That I'm offering answers. I'm just here to provide better quality questions for you to ponder on.

#writerscoffeeclub 7Sep—How much does your writing occupy your thoughts away from the keyboard?Let's just say, most of the time. I experience lucid dreams regularly involving my characters. Driving to wherever alone, I'm never alone, for often my characters are there talking to me. About the only time they aren't is when I'm focused on my dragons.#writing #sciencefiction

#WritersCoffeeClub 7Sep—How much does your writing occupy your thoughts away from the keyboard? It fluctuates greatly. When an idea has gripped me and it first turns into a project, my thoughts are with it every minute of every day, to the point that I am often quite distracted. Then there is this current stage, where it's all basically written down. It leaves my head and only gets thought about when I'm trying to make myself go back to working on it.Yeah, finishing things is challenging.

#WritersCoffeeClub 6.Do you write daily? Why or why not? Not. I have a busy day job and a few other hobby interests, so I cannot dedicate as much time as I would like. However, I have still managed to deliver at least 1,000 words of translations and commentary to my Patreon supporters every Monday, for more than six years - so it's not as if I take a lot of breaks as such.https://www.patreon.com/sunkencastles

#WritersCoffeeClub 5 September. How much should a writer read?I generally recommend reading as much as you are able - on any conceivable subject, and certainly outside of your genre. Inspiration can be gained from _anywhere_, and the more you read - the more you know - the more will you be able to develop your own style and your own unique ideas and plots. One of my major regrets in life is that I do no longer have as much time to read as I did in my youth, but I nevertheless try to keep at it.

#WritersCoffeeClub 5Sep—How much should a writer read?IDEALLY a fair amount - new books, unfamiliar authors, and wider than the genres we write. I like to revisit classics now I have a writer's eye.Read for fun, but also experience the particular, immersive, relationship with a book. We should read long form non-fiction.I find age, medication, and the slog of editing reduce how much I read compared with how much I view. Impossible to stay across 1 genre#books #writing #amwriting

#WritersCoffeeClub 9/5. How much should a writer read?Voraciously, constantly, curiously, and not just within their own field.(It's an essential prerequisite for not being derivative, clichéd, and constantly reintenting the wheel. You're very unlikely to produce something original if you aren't familiar with the prior art.)

#WritersCoffeeClub Sep 4. How do you handle nudity or sex in your writing? Subtly, graphically, not at all?I handle it exactly as in the German folk tales I translate.Which is to say, normally they don't dwell on the details, but when the story explicitly says that a dwarf is copulating with the castle cook on the wedding carpet, then I will translate this as literally as possible too.
