    @autistics

    I have a dilemma. I don't like using photos of myself on my profile pictures because I don't recognize myself or I don't like the way I gesture in them. I understood it has to do with autism and trying to appear pleasant in photos, or at least not look grumpy or moody. The current one is from 2021 and my wife took it at a country restaurant. I didn't like it, but I accepted it and use it almost everywhere. I have a more recent one from 2024, but everyone who sees that photo tells me two things: 1) That I'm more truly myself, and 2) That I look like a mobster. The truth is, I was very calm and took a selfie to show my wife that I had cut my hair. I'll leave it here, and if you want, you can tell me what you see. Later, I can answer about my true state of mind at the time of the photo and what I was doing just before taking it.
    It is very funny that many of us with autism do not have a facial expression that clearly reveals emotions or mental states to others. 😅

      @cesarpose @autistics
      To be honest, if you were anything like me when I took my profile shot, you were probably thinking, is this thing working?
      And, yes. The good old autistic flat effect.

        @pathfinder @autistics My vision was a little blurry at the time. I'm nearsighted, and the camera wasn't focusing 😅

            .
            I used to follow the musician, Ron Sexsmith, on Twitter, and I miss him. He doesn’t smile for cameras, says no-one in his family does. Not my story to tell, but he told me in public on Twitter.
            .
            Me, I have a mask face for the camera, I’ve never tried blanking for one. I believe the blank face sets alarms off, I found I hated seeing it, I think I look stupid without my little frown. All this is very old, from childhood, and I have not yet revisited. I’m alone, it doesn’t come up much.

              @punishmenthurts @pathfinder @autistics I don't like seeing myself in photos or videos either. I never did. But a while ago I told myself that I have to accept myself as I am. I'm not saying fall in love because I'm very ugly, but I do want to recognize myself and learn to feel comfortable being myself.
