Charlie Kirk war nicht „rechtskonservativ“. Er war in den letzten Jahren dem Spektrum des White Nationalism zuzuordnen, ein Faschist und offen rechtsextrem, hat gegen BPoC und LGBTQ Menschen gehetzt, ein radikaler Sexist obendrein. Man kann seine Ermordung verurteilen ohne ihn zu verharmlosen.
Kirk called Martin Luther King Jr an „awful person“ and said: „We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s." Kirk also derided empathy: „I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made up new age term that does a lot of damage.“
Charlie Kirk hast publicly wondered whether Taylor Swift has „any eggs left“. After she got engaged, Kirk said „This is something that I hope will make Taylor Swift more conservative. Engage in reality more… Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You’re not in charge”

Kirk spread conspiracy theories about vaccines and the pandemic, calling social distancing measures in churches a „Democratic plot against Christianity". He bused TPUSA supporters to DC on Jan 6 and denied the storming of the Capitol was an insurrection.
Kirk also opposed reforms of gun laws in the face of gun violence. In 2023, he said: „It’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights“
The list of examples of Charlie Kirk‘s bigotry is endless.
His murder is still horrific. However: A Democratic governor like Newsom copying JD Vance‘s framing of a man who made spewing hate his career as someone merely interested in spirited political debate across the aisle is absolutely bizarre.
