I would say that we really do make it hard on ourselves, but each and every point here can be traced back to corporate lobbying for the rich and powerful. They make it hard for us to do the right thing, and profit every step of the way.

It's past time we viewed ourselves as an occupied nation and acted accordingly.
We are occupied by a vastly suppior force, so I am not suggesting open confrontation. But we cannot act as if this is normal, like democracy is functioning.
