I mean, personally neither of those are compelling reasons for ICANN to have allowed Amazon ownership of those domains. ICANN should be serving the interests of the people on the planet, not auctioning off basic internet infrastructure to the highest bidders in private auctions.

Even if we wanted to say that was fine to do because of how domains are registered, fine, but it needs to have requirements set so that things like this can't be done explicitly. I'd bet they never set a rule like this because they're unimaginative and never considered ways it could be abused.

  • In Uni so far, I've taken 2 philosophy courses (100 level and a 200 level), and attempted to take another course (this term) that was a 200 level.

I don't know what their background was, but it's always struck me that many authors are the equivalent of modern day philosophers. They write commentary (sometimes scathing) about the current state of the world. Terry Pratchett's writing is especially this way and is done generally for the sake of comedy but it definitely does make a person think (or at least did me).

Philosophy majors that I've met mostly seem to be historians and not actually about critically thinking about and examining the world, pondering difficult ethical dilemmas, etc. Maybe that's because it's a solved discipline or something, and there's not a lot of exploration left to do.

It sucks that you've had a bad experience though. I am not a fan of places that take your money and aren't willing to give you the support you need to succeed.

The people who are butthurt over this post need to give their heads a shake. Free doesn't mean the same thing to everyone.

If you get a second hand lawnmower for free that requires a bunch of TLC to make work well, it still has that hidden cost of the time to fix it. Not everyone is equipped or knowledgeable enough to do small engine repair on an old gas mower. Even fewer understand anything about how a pushmower works. Just because it cost you $0 out of pocket initially doesn't mean the time investment is nothing.

Yes, Linux is the second-hand lawnmower in this example.

Boy howdy is there a ton in common between the classic "I use arch" meme and the lawnmower-loving community.
