City of Rocks State Park is a geologic treasure; with towering, sculptured rock pinnacles and boulders rising as high as 40 ft separated by paths or lanes resembling city streets. The boulders were deposited by a volcanic eruption about 34.9 million years ago. Erosion sculpted the columns and peculiar rock formations over several million years.
