“The Professor” nickname originated for a different reason, as stated in Peart’s Bubba Blog:
“An even earlier nickname given to me, ‘The Professor,’ had an an equally ironic root. … No, the Guys at Work were simply equating my demeanor with the character on ‘Gilligan’s Island,’ played by Russell Johnson.”
“Premier Wab Kinew says whisky drinkers must remember that Crown Royal is made in Canada.
‘Crown Royal employs a ton of people in Gimli, Manitoba,’ Kinew said Wednesday as he pushed back against Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who poured out a bottle at a news conference after the company announced it will close a bottling plant in his province.”
“Kinew called the whisky distilled in Manitoba ‘the pride of Gimli’ and a product ‘that Canadians should support.’
‘If you buy Crown Royal, you’re supporting Manitoba jobs,’ said the premier.”
Another piece of Doug Ford performance politics:
“‘… I think everyone else should do the same thing,’ Ford said as the amber liquid [Crown Royal] slowly emptied out of the bottle. ‘Start supporting companies that make whisky here in Ontario, people. That’s what we need to do, is support each other.’”
Mr Team Canada apparently doesn’t care about the Manitoba workers in Gimili that distill Crown Royal or the Quebec workers in Valleyfield that bottle it for the Canadian market.
In case he forgot, the last budget introduced tax cuts for local distilleries which may account for why Diageo decided to cut costs in Ontario.
