This is a very durable and reasonably easy way to finish a petticoat seam also, it's just very much not fast! If the fabric was a bit sturdier I could have tried my luck with a presser foot that automatically did a flat felled seam all in one go, but it certainly was not going to work out in this fabric.

Yesterday's sewing, after putting on the ruffle. Tacked the seam allowance of the upper section around the seam allowance of the new ruffle. It did take all evening so I went to bed instead of machine topstitching it yesterday, so that'll be on on the gay agenda today. After that, making the final hem ruffle and hemming it!

Unironically one of the reasons I love to work with white fabric is that when a cat is resting on it, the fabric surface works as a reflector, and the cat is cast in such a soft and gentle light, and it's always very pretty. Sure, it also does the same to me, but the cats!

People do worse things for sillier reasons!
