      @jeffowski
      My New Age mom used to say that everything that happens to us has a meaning and is intended to teach us something. I always replied, oh yeah, what did it teach the toddlers when they were gassed at Auschwitz?

        @jeffowski I've noticed that many people can reason from A to B, and B to C, but A to C is straining their capacity.

        Most religious crap is like that. Logically, it doesn't make sense at scale. But it SEEMS to, at very low resolution of single 'rules' or such, as long as you don't think about them too much.

        And there's an entire lucrative industry in doing that 'thinking' FOR you, so that you don't have to -- and also, I presume, in the hopes that you won't.

          @wesdym --

          There is a particular trick I learned from playing the 1980's role-playing game, Paranoia.

          There is a skill called "Spurious Logic" and the masterful use of it is establishing an innocent (but FALSE) connection and then build logically from there to an end conclusion that is your the real act you are justifying, while having a LONG chain of logic behind it...
