"...The rabies virus invades the central nervous system and is almost always fatal once symptoms start. Early symptoms, which can begin about a week or up to a year after exposure, may resemble the flu and progress quickly to confusion, paralysis, salivating, hallucinations and difficulty swallowing, followed by death within weeks...."

Note: Wilderness First Aid Tip: if you exchange saliva with a raccoon, no matter how cute it is, get rabies shots anyway."WHO: Transmission and pathogenesis
In most cases the disease is transmitted via the bite of rabid animals which shed infectious virus with their saliva. The virus enters the body through transdermal inoculation (i.e. wounds) or direct contact of infectious material (i.e. saliva, cerebrospinal liquid, nerve tissue) to mucous membranes or skin lesions. The virus can not penetrate intact skin."

Hmm, apparently Utah is now the wild west, people are walking around with rifles and handguns and whatever the heck they want, loaded.Hmm, apparently Utah is now the wild west, people are walking around with rifles and handguns and whatever the heck they want, loaded. (this apparently happened after I left)
Utah House passes bill allowing 18-year-olds to openly carry loaded firearms
"As a "constitutional carry" state, residents can conceal carry firearms without a permit, and adults over the age of 21 can legally openly carry loaded firearms in most public places. Lisonbee told KSL.com last year that the distinction between 18-year-olds and 21-year-olds when it comes to open carry law likely runs afoul of anti-age-discrimination law, citing a 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision."

I believe "normal watch" (and particularly, CHEAP ANALOG normal watch) is an extreme minority now. Just the geeky people here on Mastodon, LOL.

Hmm, now that I have restored my two childhood Casio watches to working order, what should I do with them?@ChrisKillat Does such a place exist? Do people under the age of 45 even wear non-smart watches anymore?

Oooh, looks like the local university wants me to teach my GIS class again!Oooh, looks like the local university wants me to teach my GIS class again! Will get to work on improving my lectures. I will need to find another or different textbook, the one I used last time was only so-so... Any GIS folks here have any favorite books on practical use of satellite/remote imaging? (I used Lillesand's Remote Imaging and Interpretation, but it's less applied skills and mostly theory. Less math and algorithms, more concepts would be preferable--teaching this to Environmental Science and Resource Management students).

Founders of Ben & Jerry unhappy with the brand:"When we founded Ben & Jerry’s in 1978, we had a simple but radical idea: that a business could thrive by making great products while standing up for progressive values and social justice.Founders of Ben & Jerry unhappy with the brand:
"When we founded Ben & Jerry’s in 1978, we had a simple but radical idea: that a business could thrive by making great products while standing up for progressive values and social justice. Over the past five decades, Ben & Jerry’s has become successful precisely because people know it stands for something deeper than ice cream...
...For several years now the
voice of Ben & Jerry’s has been silenced by Unilever, particularly when the brand has tried to speak out about social justice and unjust wars. That is not the Ben & Jerry’s that we founded, or the one that we envisioned when we agreed to join Unilever 25 years ago...."https://freebenandjerrys.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/BNJ-Final-Board-Letter.pdf

A new ham radio amateur got an antenna I gave for him for free a couple of years ago on the air (recently got General Class).A new ham radio amateur got an antenna I gave for him for free a couple of years ago on the air (recently got General Class). Hooray! 17m dipole. Cost a whopping nothing (SO-259 connector removed off a non-working CB radio, soldered to a couple of pieces of salvaged wire, LOL). New radio amateurs always ask what brand of HF antenna to buy, and how much to spend, and I always tell them to NOT pay money for antennas and just build a dipole to start. #hamradio
